Termite Lumber

Protects Against Termites

To build lasting protection into your home, build with borates: construct your home using ProWood® Borate, the most effective and economical way to protect against termites, decay, and rot. Unlike other termite remedies, borate-treated lumber even protects against the voracious Formosan termite.

The Trouble with Traditional Soil Treatment
Traditional termite treatments, which are applied to the soil prior to construction, deteriorate after just five to seven years. They are easily compromised during construction or even by tasks like gardening. Most important, they cannot control termites that nest above ground, like the Formosan termite, or against fungi that thrive when moisture collects in exterior walls. Traditional treatments can mask the infestation of structural systems that are hidden from view—until it’s too late.

The ProWood Borate Difference
Only ProWood Borate borate-treated lumber provides a termite barrier within the structural materials (including sill plates) that form the backbone of your home. Formosan termites destroy wood by building a tube around conventionally treated wood surfaces. But borate-treated lumber is water-soluble, so the borates can penetrate these tubes to kill and repel insects. Borates—safe, naturally occurring mineral salts—interfere with the termites’ metabolic processes and effectively kill them. The surviving termites avoid the treated material.

ProWood Borate products are rot-resistant wood, too—they even resist dry rot. As proof of their durability, ProWood Borate products have a lifetime limited warranty longer than traditional termite-control products.
