Whether utilized in our facilities or with our vendors, we are mindful that our environmental practices help maximize materials use and minimize waste.
Because our business depends on protecting the environment as much as possible, we do our best to ensure that our environmental impact is as negligible as possible. As a leading manufacturer of engineered wood products, we strive to protect the sustainability and the responsible use of wood. As a whole, engineered products are typically made from fast-growing species cultivated in managed forests. They’re also manufactured with less waste and carry greater loads over longer spans than solid wood of equivalent size. Eight of our plants have met rigorous standards to earn Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification.
In addition to manufacturing, Universal Forest Products also treats lumber. Using fast-growing species from managed forests, we’re able to “extend” the life of wood products through value engineering. Our facilities are environmentally protective, closed-loop systems that are operated and monitored by a staff of scientists, as well as production and regulatory specialists. Fully committed to reducing our impact, we recycle the solution used to treat lumber, and ensure that our treating plants have zero wastewater discharge.
As a manufacturer of wood composites, Universal Forest Products uses 25,000 tons of recycled wood dust per year, practicing active recycling on a significant scale. In addition, we recycle and re-extrude our composite downfall for industrial products.
