ProWood Borate Treated Lumber

ProWood® Borate Applications

Except for its blue hue, ProWood Borate borate-treated lumber looks and smells just like untreated wood. ProWood Borate is perfect for above-ground, weather-protected structural framing in residential and commercial projects. It is intended for interior construction—not for the outdoor construction of decks, playgrounds, etc.—but it can be used for sill plates to provide a termite barrier between your project’s foundation and frame.

More specifically, the ProWood Borate line of borate-treated products is designed for weather-protected, above-ground applications such as roof systems, studs, flooring, sill plates, blocking and furring, and other interior framing applications. ProWood Borate should not be used in applications where the material may be exposed to precipitation. Borate-treated products must be continuously protected from liquid water, and they should never be used in contact with the ground. They should not be used in any exterior application or for horticultural uses such as landscape timbers, vineyard posts, or mulch.

ProWood Borate is safe for construction crews and the environment.

Testing has shown that ProWood Borate is not corrosive to fasteners, so the same fasteners may be used with borate-treated wood as with untreated wood.

If required by local building codes, ProWood Borate should be used in conjunction with soil treatment for pests.
