Pallet Categories
Pallets come in all shapes and sizes. Universal's experts can help you choose the right pallet for your job. Using PDS, we can individually design a pallet to your specifications.
There are three general categories of pallets: general purpose, single-use (expendable) and special purpose.
- Single-use pallets will be disposed of after one trip, so cost is an essential factor. These pallets come in two configurations:
- Block pallets use blocks rather than stringers to save on weight and lumber content. These are usually four-way pallets.
- No-block pallets resemble unitized crate panels and feature a two-way design. They are usually handled with saber forklift truck attachments, because the opening heights are small.
- Special purpose pallets are designed specifically for the product to be carried, so they can be of any design. Often these pallets are reusable.
- General purpose pallets are ideal for a wide variety of material handling applications
