Properly maintained wood decks will stay looking good for years to come

Care & Maintenance

Water Repellant and Stain

Pressure-treated lumber products like ProWood Micro CA should be protected and maintained to keep it looking good season after season. Periodic application of a high-quality, clear water repellent or semi-transparent stain with water repellent will help minimize warping, checking, splitting and other weathering problems.

Clear water repellent can be applied immediately to new pressure-treated wood. Semi-transparent stains with water repellent should be applied to new pressure-treated lumber as soon as the wood’s surface is dry. The dryness of the surface can be determined by sprinkling a few drops of water on the surface. If the water is rapidly absorbed by the pressure-treated wood, apply the semi-transparent stain with water repellent immediately. If the water is not readily absorbed by the treated lumber, wait a few days and then test again before applying the stain.

Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations when applying clear water repellent or semi-transparent stain with water repellent.

Paint

Although ProWood Micro CA provides a surface that is easier for paints to cover, we do not recommend painting it. ProWood does not need protection from the elements, paints and varnishes peel over time and maintenance of a horizontal painted surface is frequent and tedious. But, if your decorative decisions do call for paint, make sure the wood is dry before application. (Pour some water over the surface. If it beads, wait; if it seeps into the wood, it’s ready to paint.)
