What is ProWood® Micro and ProWood Micro CA Treated Lumber?
ProWood® Micro and ProWood Micro CA are Universal’s next generation of pressure-treated lumber. Like our other preserved wood products, ProWood Micro and ProWood Micro CA are pressure treated to protect against termite attack and decay. But with ProWood Micro and ProWood Micro CA, the copper is micronized, which lessens the corrosion of fasteners—so there's no need for expensive fasteners. Like all of our treated lumber, it can withstand harsh weather conditions and is effective for decades.
A comprehensive scientific review paper on micronized copper wood preservative systems was recently published as the feature story in the November 2008 issue of the Forest Products Journal. Laboratory and field studies demonstrate that micronized copper treated wood products such as ProWood Micro provide protection against fungal decay and termites in both above ground and ground contact applications.
The Treatment Process

The process used to treat ProWood® Micro and ProWood Micro CA is the first to gain Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) status as certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). Scientific Certification Systems is a third-party certification services and standards development company. MicroPro has also earned NAHB's Green Approved Product certification. Universal's lumber comes from plentiful, fast-growing trees grown on managed forestland. It’s estimated that pressure-treated lumber conserves millions of trees per year.
