Garden Lattice

How to Choose Wood Lattice

  1. Consider purpose and style
Lattice is available in heavy-duty lattice where extra support is needed, garden lattice for decorative uses, or privacy lattice, which has smaller openings to protect your privacy. Lattice caps and lath are available to frame the lattice.
  2. Determine where lattice panels and caps are needed
Panels are typically 4’x8’ (2’x8’ are available in select regions). Lattice caps are 101” and lath is 96”. The overall dimension of a lattice panel will increase when framing it using lattice caps.
  3. Develop a materials list
    • Power saw or fine-toothed handsaw
    • Fine-toothed keyhole saw or power saber saw (if planning a curved or angled cut)
    • Drill for pilot hole screws
    • Hot-dip galvanized screws
    • Small screwdriver
    • Pliers
    • Chalk line
    • Tape measure
    • Carpenter’s pencil
    • Safety glasses
  4. Installing Lattice
When installing lattice, make sure the lath on all panels runs in the same direction. Remove all staples in cut line prior to trimming the panels. When framing, miter all of the corners at 45-degree angles.
